Cooke & Hutchinson Lawyers Legal Practice Director Mr Daniel Hutchinson said that he “applauds the Queensland Law Society for bringing the Queensland Government's proposed director's liability reforms to the attention of the profession and the public”.

“Any law that is so draconian that it reverses the onus of proof so that a director of a company must prove their innocence is outdated and simply bad law” Mr Hutchinson said. “Many small to medium size enterprises operate utilising a corporate or quasi-corporate structure it not just the big end of town that this legislation will have an effect on”.

“The legislation makes doing business in Queensland less attractive and seems to be at odds with the Government's pre-election commitment to eliminate red tape for business” said Mr Hutchinson.
